Back Australia @ 125/1 to win the World Cup.....9/1 to win Group F...... bet with BLUESQUARE Back Japan @ 250/1 to win the World Cup.....10/1 to win Group F...... bet with BLUESQUARE Japan Brazilian coach Zico has kept many of their 2002 squad with the likes of captain Tsuneyasu Miyamoto and Hidetoshi Nakata, Shunsuke Nakamura, Naohiro Takahara and Yuji Nakazawa all remain key figures. Japan topped Group B in the final round of the Asian qualifiers and were the first team to qualify for their 3rd finals. Their only defeat was a 2-1 loss away to Iran. Australia are appearing for their second FIFA World Cup after a 32 years absence. They qualified by defeating Uruguay in the intercontinental play-off via penalties after the aggregate score was level at 1-1 from two legs.
This should be a close game as the odds suggested and on a 1/4 ball handicap Japan is my choice here. They have improved since the last world cup as co-host with Korea Rep. where they went out in stage 2. Recent showings especially the 2-2 friendly against host Germany where they raced to a 2 goal lead before the Germans spared some blushes to score twice and salvaged a draw. Australia finally reached the finals after many years of near misses when they always failed at the playoffs. But this time may have come too late for many of their players who maybe have surpassed their best. As underdogs, maybe, to hold for a point based on their defensive and physical play but not as favourites on a - ball handicap. Back Japan on a + 1/4 ball in Asian Handicap @ 1.85 with Bet365
